Runaway Train!

World's End

Wednesday morning at World’s End and an imported locomotive and carriage arrive to be greeted by a rather average ukulele duo. In matching attire of course, for everyone knows that ukuleleists love a uniform, especially in red.

However the somewhat out of tune rendition of Bad Moon Rising has forced Latin speaking horse whisperer Shamus O’Shandy and Hubert the conversational Latin speaking horse to face the other way and take brief refuge behind the arriving train.

The engine is without a crew, they having taken fright moments before and jumped in to the canal.

Arthritic Arthur and Bob Geeza Cat who were enjoying peace and tranquillity have taken to the Narrowboat as a means to escape what sounds like a swarm of drunken fighting wasps.

And finally, just after pressing the shutter, the train hit the end of line buffers (an old log driven to to the ground) and disappeared in to the bog never to be seen again, but given the state of the engine it’s unlikely to be missed.

Nasmyth & Wilson Company Ltd 2-6-2 locomotive

Worlds End

Here we are at World’s End again, and the passing the narrowboat reveals national treasure Uncle Bob checking out a Nasmyth & Wilson Company Ltd built 2-6-2 locomotive

It was originally intended for export to foreign climes, but the order was cancelled when the railway it was intended for decided to re-gauge from 2ft 3 inches to 4ft 1 & 1/2 inches. Though looking at the size of it, one cannot but wonder if it could have been re gauged, however I’m no authority on such things.

Meanwhile Pick-axe Pete is harvesting some rhubarb he planted on a small disused parcel of land occupied by an old crane and a derelict shed. There are few things he cannot do with his trust pick-axe, for last week he finely adjusted the valve clearances on the A Series engine in his Austin A30 van - such a clever chap.

It’s rumoured that Ratio based their delightful model crane on the one here. It’s also rumoured that Scale Model Scenery based their derelict laser cut barn kit on the one here too. But that might just be my overactive imagination and complete and utter poppycock.

Frog Spotter & Peat Bog Fanciers

World's End

Here we are at World’s End again, the the terminus end of a line from nowhere.

An occasional passenger train runs, not to any kind of timetable, but simply on an ad-hock bases if enough people turn up wanting to travel to World’s End for some reason or another.

Here we have one such train arriving with passengers (or customers as we refer to them today) consisting of 4 frog spotters and 2 peat bog fanciers looking for mummified bog men from the end of the last ice age and Nasal Nigel.

Waving Weginald waves at the arriving train which consists of a couple of quite modern looking carriages of mid-European origin, which by English narrow gauge standards are ‘rather fancy’ with the bogies giving an excellent ride for such a railway.

The building on the left which today is a station building (other days it’s simply a store for illicit bounty) is based on one that can currently by found on the Ffestiniog Railway, the builder of this railway Colonel Tarquin-Fugg-Hughes rather fancying his very own copy.

It’s rumoured that the recent PECO laser cut kit is based in the building here rather than the one on the Ffestiniog, though that might just be total nonsense.

And finally, fans of Bob Geeza Cat will be pleased to see that he’s managed to find his way to World’s End - for he’s such a clever cat 🐾

New OO9 Cameo

260912 Worlds End DSC_3428c

It’s Monday at World’s End, and Bob Geeza cat has come to inspect the new OO9 cameo.

Also national treasure Uncle Bob has appeared to research for his forthcoming minority interest TV series aimed at lonely single late-middle-aged and elderly men who still live with ‘Mother’ and schoolboys with no friends. That’s him by the engine, more on that in a moment.

We’ve also not seen average photographer Ivan Locksmith for a while. And there he is accompanied by Rufus Hound puffing away at his pipe which will almost certainly be full of something exotic that he’s grown in his giant tropical greenhouse which rivals those of Wisley and Kew Gardens

He took this photo by the way using a home grown remote he built from rubber bands, Nasal Nigel’s G string (off his ukulele, not what you were thinking) and a dismantled air fryer that didn’t even get to the end of its warranty period.

The engine is a bit of a cut and shove and the result of no planning whatsoever that somehow came together. Oddly enough it works too and you certainly would want to argue with that heavy girder for a buffer beam.

And finally, the before some smug snotty-nosed snivelling little tick points out that the engine won’t fit through the entrance of the workshop behind. Well done, now go off and make me a bacon sarnie and a nice cuppa, but please wash your hands first. 2 sugars please.

Laters.

World’s End

Worlds End

Sunday morning at World’s End, and here we are at a narrow gauge light railway terminus on the edge of nothing and the middle of nowhere (rather like Bedfordshire). You won’t even find the place on any map, despite there being many World’s Ends on this overcrowded isle, but this World’s End is so insignificant, cartographers couldn’t be bothered and simply went to the pub instead.

For this reason, the moonshiners have set up a new operation in plain sight, for there is little chance of being rumbled on what is an ideal location with rail access right on its doorstep.

These ancient barns pre date the railway by many years and until the coming of the railway could only be accessed on foot across a wild open bog, with only a select few knowing how the navigate to their existence without sinking into the mud or being eaten by wild boar. Though quite how the red lorry on the right has got here I’ve no idea which makes me think that the hand of spod has been involved in this cameo.

And finally, it’s rumoured that PECO based their popular Wills kits on these remote and ancient gems.

Driver Bernard & His Manning Wardle

Hubert the Conversational Latin Speaking Horse

Hubert the conversational Latin speaking horse is being given some treats based on some old recipes which apparently the Romans gave their horses of fighting age recently discovered in Nasal Nigel’s secret dungeon at the end of his garden when the police raided it the other week.

Quite what Roman artefacts were doing in Nigel’s ‘space’ I’ve no idea, but it definitely somewhere you’d not want to end up in a straight jacket with Nigel showing you his Flying Scotsman collection in a multitude of scales and gauges. But each to their own, for toy train and and those involved are from a broad church…

….On that note, rumour has it he even has a broad gauge Flying Scotsman in Z scale which runs on N gauge track.

Meanwhile on the light railway works train trundles through with Driver Bernard  in charge of his Manning Wardle 0-6-0 saddle tank, it bouncing along the rickety rails at a thrilling 13 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, Delibertion Dave, that’s him there on the right is finding little to deliberate about today for a change, but I’m sure the passing of the train and engine without a locomotive lamp will give him something to worry about.

New OO9 Narrow Gauge Project

New Project

Some newly built stuff from popular kits for a personal OO9 narrow gauge weekend project I’m working on. Stone sheds are plastic kits from Wills (PECO) and the tatty workshop a laser cut kit with printed overlays from Scale Model Scenery.

More in due course I’m sure….
