With a gale blowing outside confirming that it really is winter, here's a rose tinted view of railways as they were - well, in our memories anyway!
Bulleid 'Coffeepot' Q1 Class No. 33019 with a Redhill to Reading service storms past an ex-GWR pannier tank in the summer of '62 taken on my loco train photothingy. I really must add some fishplates to the track sometime!

Excellent photo! The realism is quite startling. I hadn't even noticed the lack of fishplates, my eye was drawn to pretty much everything but the track!
ReplyDeleteHi Chris, Brass cosmetic fishplates can be bought as you probably know but I read somewhere on the web about creating the plates (with bolt head detail) in graphic editng software for printing and fiting to the rail. Whilst the example showed no relief for the bolt heads this could be achieved with a centre punch or similar pressed from behind to raise the surface. I spent far too long making mine in brass before discovering this easy method.
